COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Music (MMus) in Performance (Orchestral Instruments) – Project is a 30-credit hour graduate program designed to provide advanced training for orchestral instrumentalists through intensive study, performance practice, and applied musical development. The program combines academic coursework with individualized instruction and performance-based learning. Students begin with core courses such as MAP 800, MU 813, and MU 815, which develop advanced skills in music research, analysis, and interpretive understanding essential for professional-level musicianship. They also complete specialized performance courses MU 881 and MU 882, which focus on technical refinement, repertoire expansion, and advanced instrumental performance under expert mentorship. A key component of the program includes either MU 871 & 872 or MU 801 & 802, depending on the student’s area of specialization, providing focused ensemble or performance training that enhances orchestral skills and professional readiness. These courses ensure strong technical proficiency and stylistic versatility in orchestral performance contexts. The program culminates in MU 902, a 12-credit major project that demonstrates the student’s artistic mastery, interpretive depth, and performance excellence. Overall, the MMus in Performance prepares graduates for professional careers as orchestral musicians, educators, and performers, emphasizing high-level technical skill, artistic expression, and practical experience in Western classical orchestral traditions.
