COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Music (MMus) in Conducting (project-based) is a 30-credit hour graduate program designed to provide advanced professional training in conducting through a combination of coursework, applied practice, and a major project. The program begins with core courses such as MAP 800, MU 815, and MU 813, which focus on foundational concepts in music research, analysis, and advanced musicianship. Students also complete paired performance and conducting courses such as MU 801 & 802, MU 831 & 832, or MU 871 & 872, depending on their specialization, which develop practical conducting skills and ensemble leadership. Additional coursework includes one selection from MU 803–809, 811, 817, 818, 820, 821, or 841, and another advanced elective chosen from MU 803–809, 811, 817, 820, 821, 841, or approved language or music courses such as GER, FRN, SPAN, or MU 860, allowing flexibility to tailor studies to individual artistic and academic interests. The program culminates in MU 902, a 12-credit major project focused on advanced conducting practice and applied performance work. Overall, the MMus in Conducting prepares graduates for professional careers in music performance, education, and ensemble leadership, combining rigorous academic study with intensive practical training in conducting.
