COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Indigenous Education (MIEd) (project-based) is a 30-credit hour graduate program designed to provide advanced study in Indigenous education through structured coursework and applied learning. The program includes core courses such as ED 817, which explores key issues and foundations in Indigenous education, and EC&I 821 and EC&I 823, which focus on curriculum, instruction, and culturally responsive teaching practices. Students also complete EFDN 804 and EFDN 805, which provide deeper engagement with educational foundations, Indigenous knowledge systems, and research-informed practice. In addition, the program includes three approved 8xx-level electives selected in consultation with the program coordinator, allowing students to tailor their studies to specific academic or professional interests within Indigenous education. A key component of the program is ED 900, a 6-credit course that typically involves a major project or applied capstone experience integrating theory and practice. This structure emphasizes applied learning rather than independent thesis research, making it suitable for students aiming to strengthen professional practice. Overall, the program prepares graduates for leadership roles in education, curriculum development, policy, and community-based educational initiatives, with a strong focus on Indigenous perspectives, cultural responsiveness, and practical application in educational settings.
