COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Indigenous Education (MIEd) (course-based) is a 30-credit hour graduate program that focuses on advanced study in Indigenous education through structured coursework rather than a thesis or major research project. The program includes core courses such as ED 817, which introduces foundational concepts and critical issues in Indigenous education, along with EC&I 821 and EC&I 823, which emphasize curriculum development, instructional strategies, and culturally responsive teaching practices. Students also complete EFDN 804 and EFDN 805, which explore educational foundations, Indigenous knowledge systems, and contemporary approaches to teaching and learning in Indigenous contexts. In addition to these required courses, students take five 8xx-level electives, selected in consultation with the program coordinator, allowing them to tailor their studies to specific areas of interest within Indigenous education, policy, leadership, or related fields. This flexible elective structure enables students to deepen their expertise while maintaining a broad understanding of educational issues affecting Indigenous communities. The program emphasizes applied learning, critical reflection, and professional development, making it suitable for educators and professionals seeking to enhance their practice.
