COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Film Production (Research and Exhibition) at the University of Regina is a 42-credit hour graduate program designed to develop advanced creative, technical, and research skills in film and media arts. The curriculum combines core theory, production practice, and independent creative work. Students begin with foundational graduate courses such as MAP 800 and MAP 803, which introduce advanced concepts in media arts production and critical approaches to film. They also complete FILM 830 and FILM 831, focusing on specialized areas of filmmaking practice and theory. A major component of the program includes FILM 804 along with additional advanced electives such as FILM 890AA–ZZ, ART 801–804, MAP 899, or MAP 804, allowing students to tailor their studies toward specific artistic or research interests. An open elective further supports flexibility in developing a personalized academic path. The program culminates in FILM 901, a substantial thesis or exhibition-based creative project that represents 18 credit hours, where students produce a major film or media work supported by research and critical reflection. This structure integrates theory, production, and exhibition practice, preparing graduates for professional careers in filmmaking, media arts, or advanced creative research.
