COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Public Administration (MPA) in Public Administration (course-based) is a 30-credit hour graduate program designed to develop strong administrative, analytical, and leadership skills for careers in the public sector. The program provides a comprehensive foundation in public governance, policy implementation, and organizational management. Students complete core courses including JSGS 801 and JSGS 802, which introduce key concepts in public administration theory and practice. They also take JSGS 805, JSGS 806, JSGS 807, and JSGS 808, which focus on areas such as public sector management, policy analysis, financial administration, and organizational behavior. Additional required courses include JSGS 838 and JSGS 882, which further strengthen students’ understanding of governance systems, leadership, and administrative decision-making. The program also includes JSGS 891 and JSGS 892, which provide applied learning experiences, professional development, or integrative policy and management training. Students complete two additional electives from JSGS 8xx-level courses or approved alternatives, allowing them to tailor their studies to specific career interests in public administration or related fields. Unlike thesis-based programs, the MPA emphasizes coursework and applied learning rather than independent research. Overall, the program prepares graduates for leadership roles in government, public agencies, and nonprofit organizations by building strong skills in management, policy implementation, and public service delivery.
