COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Applied Science (MASc) in Industrial Systems Engineering is a 30-credit hour research-oriented graduate program designed to develop advanced analytical, technical, and research skills in industrial and systems engineering. The program requires students to complete a combination of graduate-level coursework and a substantial thesis. Students begin with core ENIN 8xx courses, which provide advanced knowledge in industrial systems engineering topics such as optimization, operations research, systems modelling, and process improvement. They also take additional ENxx 8xx courses from engineering or related disciplines to broaden their interdisciplinary understanding and strengthen technical expertise. A flexible elective component allows students to select ENxx courses at the 300 to 800 level, enabling them to tailor their learning to specific research interests or professional goals. The program includes ENGG 900, a professional development course that focuses on research methods, ethics, and engineering practice. The central requirement is ENIN 901, the thesis component, which accounts for 15 credit hours and involves conducting independent, original research under faculty supervision. This thesis is a major scholarly work that contributes new knowledge to industrial systems engineering. Overall, the MASc program prepares graduates for doctoral studies or research-intensive careers in industry, focusing on innovation, systems optimization, and advanced engineering problem-solving.
