COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Applied Science (MASc) in Software Systems Engineering (thesis-based) is a 30-credit hour graduate program designed to provide advanced training in software engineering, systems design, and applied research. The program emphasizes both theoretical foundations and practical research skills, preparing students for doctoral studies or research-intensive careers in industry and academia. Students begin with two ENSE 8xx courses, which cover advanced topics in software systems engineering such as software architecture, distributed systems, and advanced software development methodologies. These courses help build a strong technical foundation for conducting high-level research. In addition, students complete two ENxx 8xx courses or related discipline electives, allowing them to broaden their expertise in areas such as computer science, engineering, or other related technical fields. One additional elective from ENxx 3xx to 8xx level courses provides further flexibility to tailor the program to specific research interests. The program also includes ENGG 900, which focuses on research methods, engineering ethics, and professional development, preparing students for thesis work. The central component is ENSE 901, which accounts for 15 credit hours and involves conducting original, independent research under faculty supervision. This thesis demonstrates the student’s ability to design, implement, and analyze complex software systems while contributing new knowledge to the field.
