COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Arts (MA) in French and Francophone Intercultural Studies (thesis) is a 30-credit hour graduate program designed to provide advanced academic training in Francophone languages, cultures, and intercultural relations. The program combines structured coursework with independent research, culminating in a major thesis. Students begin with core graduate-level courses such as FRN 801, which typically introduces advanced theoretical and methodological approaches in French studies. They then complete several additional FRN 8xx courses, allowing for deeper specialization in areas such as Francophone literature, linguistics, cultural studies, and intercultural communication. These courses are designed to strengthen analytical, critical, and research skills while broadening academic perspectives. A significant component of the program includes FRN 900, which often involves seminar-based learning, research preparation, or professional development activities that support thesis work. The central element of the degree is FRN 901, the thesis, which accounts for the largest portion of the credit hours and involves conducting original, supervised research on a focused topic within French and Francophone intercultural studies.
