COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Arts (MA) in French and Francophone Intercultural Studies (course-based) is a 30-credit hour graduate program designed to strengthen advanced knowledge of French language, Francophone cultures, and intercultural communication through structured coursework and applied learning. The program includes core graduate courses such as FRN 801 and FRN 802, which typically focus on advanced theoretical foundations, research methods, and critical approaches in French and Francophone studies. Students then complete FRN 803 along with several additional FRN 8xx level courses, allowing them to explore specialized topics such as literature, linguistics, cultural analysis, and intercultural dynamics within Francophone communities. These courses are designed to build strong analytical, communication, and academic skills while encouraging interdisciplinary perspectives. The program also includes multiple elective FRN 8xx courses, providing flexibility to tailor the degree according to individual academic and professional interests. A key component is FRN 900, which generally involves seminar work, research engagement, or integrative academic activities that connect coursework with applied understanding. Unlike the thesis-based MA, this program does not require a major research thesis, making it more coursework-oriented. Overall, it prepares graduates for careers in education, cultural organizations, translation, public service, and other fields involving Francophone and intercultural expertise.
