COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Arts (MA) in English (project-based) at the University of Regina is a 30.0 credit hour graduate program designed to combine advanced literary study with a substantial applied research or creative academic project. This program allows students to explore English literature, language, and critical theory through structured coursework while completing a major final project instead of a thesis. Students take multiple ENGL 8xx-level graduate seminars that cover a wide range of topics, including literary analysis, cultural studies, contemporary theory, and genre-based studies. These courses help develop advanced skills in critical thinking, academic writing, and interpretation of literary texts. In addition, students complete elective courses in English or related disciplines at the 8xx level, providing flexibility to focus on specific areas of interest. The program culminates in a major project completed through ENGL 902 or ENGL 901, where students produce a significant research-based paper or scholarly work equivalent to a journal article. This project also includes critical analysis and may involve presentation or defense depending on program structure.
