COURSE CURRICULUM

The Interdisciplinary Master of Arts (MA) in Media and Artistic Research (Thesis) is a 30-credit hour graduate program designed to foster advanced academic inquiry and interdisciplinary research in media, film, and artistic studies. The program integrates theoretical, methodological, and critical approaches to support innovative research across multiple creative disciplines. Students begin with foundational courses such as MAP 800 and MAP 803, which introduce advanced concepts in media arts theory, research methodologies, and critical analysis. They also complete coursework in identified disciplinary areas, allowing them to build specialized knowledge aligned with their research interests. In addition, students take either MAP 804 or FILM 804, providing focused study in media production, film practice, or related artistic fields. The program includes MAP 899, which contributes 15 credit hours and supports advanced scholarly engagement, research development, or interdisciplinary exploration within media and artistic studies. The central component of the degree is MAP 901, the thesis, which accounts for the remaining 15 credit hours and involves conducting independent, original research under faculty supervision. This thesis demonstrates the student’s ability to apply theoretical frameworks, research methodologies, and critical thinking to a focused area of study. Overall, the program prepares graduates for doctoral studies and careers in academia, research, and cultural industries.
