COURSE CURRICULUM

The Certificate in Visual Arts is a 60.0 credit hour program designed to support students who are already engaged in artistic practice and wish to deepen their technical skills, conceptual understanding, and creative expression. Offered through the University of Regina, the program combines intensive studio-based learning with selected academic coursework to provide a well-rounded visual arts education. The curriculum begins with foundational courses such as ART 100 and either ART 220 or INA 220, followed by ART 221 or INA 221, which introduce essential studio practices and visual communication skills. ART 400 serves as a key advanced course that supports higher-level artistic development. Students then complete a significant portion of their studies through five ART courses at the 200-level (which may include FILM 205), four ART courses at the 300-level, and three ART courses at the 400-level, ensuring progressive skill development and specialization. The program also includes ARTH 100 and an additional ARTH elective, providing critical art history knowledge to contextualize studio work within broader artistic movements and traditions. Finally, students complete two electives from within the Faculty of Media, Art, and Performance but outside Visual Arts, encouraging interdisciplinary exploration. Overall, the program fosters advanced artistic growth, critical thinking, and professional preparation in the visual arts.
