COURSE CURRICULUM

The Certificate in Visual Communication Design is a 30.0 credit hour program designed to equip students with the creative, technical, and conceptual skills needed to communicate ideas effectively through visual media. Offered through the Department of Creative Technologies within the Faculty of Media, Art, and Performance at the University of Regina, the program emphasizes the use of design principles such as typography, imagery, layout, and colour to produce clear and engaging visual communication. The curriculum begins with foundational studies including MAP 001, followed by core courses such as CTCH/DES 110, CTCH/DES 111, and CTCH/DES 113, which introduce essential concepts in design thinking and visual composition. Students then progress to CTCH 203 and CTCH/DES 213, where they develop intermediate skills in communication design and digital media. CTCH/DES 215 provides further applied experience in design practices. The program also includes two CTCH/DES 200-level courses and two CTCH/DES 300-level courses, allowing students to deepen their expertise and explore advanced topics in visual communication, branding, and digital design. Overall, the certificate prepares students to create effective, accessible, and visually compelling content across print and digital platforms, supporting careers in graphic design, media production, advertising, and related creative industries.
