COURSE CURRICULUM

The Certificate for Internationally Educated Teachers at the University of Regina is a 21.0 credit hour program designed to support internationally trained educators in meeting local teaching standards and achieving certification in Saskatchewan. The curriculum includes a combination of foundational and specialized courses that enhance pedagogical knowledge and cultural understanding. Students begin with either ECS 101 or ECS 102, or an approved education elective, followed by EPSY 400, which focuses on educational psychology and learner development. Additional required courses include ECCU 400 and ECS 303, which address curriculum, teaching strategies, and inclusive education practices. A distinctive component of the program is the requirement to complete an Indigenous studies or language course, such as INDG 100, INA 100, INA 210, INAH 100, INHS 100, or an Indigenous language like Anihšināpēmowin, Cree, Dakota, Dene, or Nakota, promoting cultural awareness and respect for Indigenous perspectives in education. The program also includes EFLD 415, a 6.0 credit hour field placement that provides practical classroom experience. To successfully complete the certificate, students must achieve a minimum postgraduate GPA (PGPA) of 65.00% or an undergraduate GPA (UGPA) of 60.00%, ensuring academic competence and readiness for professional practice.
