COURSE CURRICULUM

The Certificate in Foundations of Science is a 30.0 credit hour program designed to provide students with a strong introductory grounding in scientific principles, analytical thinking, and academic skills essential for further study in science-related fields. The program includes a set of required courses across multiple disciplines to ensure a broad and balanced foundation. Students begin with ENGL 100 to develop academic writing and communication skills, followed by foundational science courses such as BIOL 100 or 101, CHEM 104, CS 110 or CS 165, ESC 102, and PHYS 109, which introduce key concepts in biology, chemistry, computer science, earth science, and physics. In addition, students must complete either MATH 103 or 110 to build quantitative reasoning and problem-solving abilities essential for scientific analysis. To encourage interdisciplinary learning, the program also requires two electives chosen from areas such as Arts, La Cité, Media, Art and Performance, or Science, along with one additional open elective, allowing students flexibility to explore personal interests. Overall, the certificate provides a comprehensive introduction to scientific study while supporting academic progression toward further credentials such as a Diploma in General Science or a Bachelor of Science degree, or serving as a standalone qualification for foundational scientific literacy.
