COURSE CURRICULUM

The Certificate in Creative Practice at the University of Regina is an 18 credit hour interdisciplinary program designed to help students explore different areas of the creative arts before choosing a specialized degree path. It is offered through the Faculty of Media, Art, and Performance and provides foundational training in multiple artistic disciplines such as visual arts, theatre, music, film, and creative technologies. The program begins with critical competency requirements, including MAP 001, which introduces students to essential academic and creative skills. Students also complete a communication course such as ACAD 100 or ENGL 100 to strengthen writing and research abilities. In addition, they take a culture and society course like MAP 200AL, MAP 209, or MAP 202, which helps them understand the broader social and cultural contexts of artistic work. The core of the program consists of creative practice courses from areas such as ART, CTCH, FILM, MAP, MUXX, THAC, THDS, and THTR, allowing students to gain hands-on experience in both introductory and studio-based learning environments. These courses encourage experimentation, collaboration, and skill development across multiple creative fields. Overall, the certificate provides a flexible and supportive foundation for students interested in exploring the arts before progressing into a specialized undergraduate degree program.
