COURSE CURRICULUM

The Certificate in Chinese Language and Culture at the University of Regina is a 30 credit hour program designed to build both language proficiency and cultural understanding. It provides students with a structured introduction to the Chinese language while also exploring the history, traditions, and social aspects of Chinese-speaking societies. The program begins with foundational courses such as ENGL 100, along with CHIN 111 and CHIN 112, which introduce basic communication skills in Mandarin Chinese, including speaking, reading, writing, and listening. Students then progress to intermediate-level courses CHIN 211 and CHIN 212, where they strengthen their grammar, vocabulary, and conversational abilities. To further deepen their learning, students take one advanced CHIN 200-, 300-, or 400-level course that expands their language and cultural knowledge. In addition, they complete four approved electives related to Chinese language and culture, allowing them to explore topics such as Chinese history, literature, society, or global relations. The program emphasizes both academic learning and practical communication skills, helping students develop cross-cultural competence. It prepares graduates for opportunities in international business, education, tourism, translation, diplomacy, and cultural exchange.
