COURSE CURRICULUM

The Certificate in Audio Recording and Sound Design is a 30 credit hour program designed to build strong technical and creative skills in professional audio production. Offered through the Department of Creative Technologies in the Faculty of Media, Art, and Performance, the program focuses on developing expertise in recording, editing, mixing, and designing sound for various media platforms. Students begin with foundational courses such as CTCH/DES 110, 111, and 112, which introduce essential principles of digital design, sound technology, and creative media practices. They also take CTCH/DES 218, which further develops core technical skills in audio and media production. The program includes a selection of intermediate courses from CTCH/DES 200-level options, allowing students to explore different aspects of sound and digital creation in greater depth. Advanced learning is provided through CTCH/DES 317 and additional 300-level courses such as CTCH/DES 301, 306, 307, 312, 313, 314, 315, or 321, which focus on higher-level production techniques and professional audio workflows. Throughout the program, students gain hands-on experience using industry-standard tools and software to create sound for film, gaming, theatre, and digital media. Overall, this certificate prepares graduates for careers in audio engineering, sound design, and multimedia production industries.
