COURSE CURRICULUM

The Advanced Studio Art program offers students a structured progression from intermediate to advanced levels of artistic development. At the 300-level, studio courses focus on specific media and methods of art production, helping students build strong technical skills while also engaging with deeper conceptual and historical ideas. These courses encourage students to become more independent in their creative practice by combining practical studio work with critical understanding of art history and contemporary approaches. At the 400-level, students take their practice further by producing original artworks under faculty supervision, allowing them to refine their artistic identity and develop work that is expressive, meaningful, and conceptually strong. The program includes a variety of studio and theory-based courses such as ART 270 Printmaking, which introduces different print techniques like intaglio, lithography, and digital processes, and ART 337 Visual Storytelling, which explores narrative forms like graphic novels and artists’ books. Other courses such as ART 357 Bronze Casting provide hands-on experience with traditional sculptural techniques, while ARTH 301 Art Theory and Criticism develops analytical skills for understanding and discussing art in relation to culture and society. Advanced courses like ART 470 Senior Printmaking focus on independent studio practice, critique, and portfolio development.
