COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science Honours in Physics is a 120-credit-hour advanced program designed for students seeking in-depth knowledge of physics and preparation for graduate-level study or research careers. The program requires 90 credit hours in major physics and related science courses, beginning with foundational sequences such as PHYS 111, 112, 201, 202, 242, 251, and 261, which establish core understanding in mechanics, electromagnetism, and modern physics concepts. Students then progress to advanced coursework including PHYS 301, 311, 322, 342, 362, 372, and 401, which cover specialized topics and strengthen theoretical and analytical skills. A significant component of the honours program includes advanced electives such as PHYS 421, 432, or 442 (two courses required), along with additional upper-level physics, astronomy, or earth science courses such as ESC 460 or ASTR 300- or 400-level options. The program also includes a major research component through PHYS 498 and PHYS 499, allowing students to complete an honours project focused on independent investigation. Supporting coursework includes CHEM 104, CS 110, CS 115 or 261, and a strong mathematics foundation with courses such as MATH 110, 111, 122, 213, 217, and 312. Students also complete Arts requirements and electives to ensure academic breadth. A minimum major GPA of 75% and a program GPA of 70% are required for graduation, reflecting the program’s high academic standard.
