COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science Honours in Geology at the University of Regina is a rigorous 120-credit-hour program designed for students seeking advanced expertise and research experience in Earth sciences. The honours major requires 87 credit hours, beginning with foundational courses such as ESC 102, ESC 201, ESC 210, and ESC 211, which introduce core geological principles, mineralogy, and Earth systems. Students then progress through intermediate and advanced topics including sedimentology, stratigraphy, structural geology, geophysics, and environmental geology with courses like ESC 240, ESC 241, ESC 307, ESC 313, ESC 314, ESC 315, ESC 340, and ESC 353. Field and applied learning are emphasized through ESC 396, while advanced research training is a key component of the honours program, including a major research project in ESC 400AC (or ESC 400AA and ESC 400AB), along with senior-level courses such as ESC 453, ESC 496, and additional 400-level ESC courses. Supporting coursework includes CHEM 104 and CHEM 105, PHYS 109 and 119 or PHYS 111 and 112, MATH 110, STAT 100 or 160, CS 110, and GES 323, ensuring strong interdisciplinary scientific skills. Students also complete APEGS-approved science electives. Outside the major, ENGL 100 and ENGL 110, 12 credit hours of Arts-related electives, and 15 credit hours of open electives are required. A minimum 75% major GPA is needed, preparing graduates for research, professional geoscience careers, or graduate studies.
