COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science Honours in Geography and Environmental Studies at the University of Regina is a 120-credit-hour advanced undergraduate program designed for students who want in-depth training in geography, environmental systems, and research. The program begins with foundational courses including GES 120, GES 121, and GES 200, which introduce core concepts in physical geography, human geography, and environmental studies. Students then complete three additional 200-level GES courses to build intermediate knowledge in spatial analysis, environmental processes, and human–environment interactions. The program places strong emphasis on advanced study, requiring six 300- or 400-level GES courses, along with two additional 400-level courses for specialization in areas such as climate systems, environmental change, or urban geography. A key component is GES 499, an Honours research project or thesis, which may include a major independent research paper or extended study under faculty supervision. Students also complete two additional GES courses to broaden subject knowledge. Supporting cognate courses include BIOL 150, CHEM 104 or PHYS 109, CS 110, STAT 100 or 160, and MATH 103 or 110, providing strong analytical and scientific foundations. The program is further supported by English communication courses, arts and science electives, and open electives. Overall, it prepares students for advanced research, graduate studies, and careers in environmental science, planning, and sustainability.
