COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science Honours in Environmental Geoscience at the University of Regina is a 120-credit-hour program designed for students seeking advanced expertise in environmental systems, geology, and sustainability, with a strong emphasis on research and fieldwork. The honours major requires 96 credit hours, beginning with foundational courses such as ESC 102, ESC 201, ESC 210, and ESC 211, followed by intermediate studies in sedimentology, geochemistry, and environmental processes through courses like ESC 240, ESC 241 or GES options, ESC 307, ESC 314, ESC 329 or GES 329, and ESC 353. Applied learning is emphasized through ESC 396 or GES 411, while a major research component is completed through ESC 400AC (or ESC 400AA and 400AB) or GES 499 equivalents. Students also complete advanced senior-level coursework, including ESC 413 or higher or GES 409 or higher, ESC 460, and additional upper-level electives for specialization. Geography courses such as GES 121, GES 203, GES 323, and GES 327 or ESC 476 enhance environmental and spatial analysis skills. Supporting courses include CHEM 104 and CHEM 105, PHYS 109 and 119 or PHYS 111 and 112, MATH 110, STAT 100 or 160, CS 110, BIOL 100 or 101, and an APEGS-approved science elective, along with an Indigenous-focused course. Additional requirements include ENGL 100, ENGL 110, electives, and minimal open credits. A 75% major GPA is required, preparing graduates for research, graduate studies, and professional environmental geoscience careers.
