COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Physics is a 120-credit-hour degree that provides students with a strong foundation in classical and modern physics, supported by essential coursework in mathematics, computing, and related sciences. The program requires 66 credit hours in major physics courses, beginning with core sequences such as PHYS 111, 112, 201, and 202, which build fundamental understanding in mechanics, waves, and electromagnetism. Students then progress to intermediate and advanced courses including PHYS 242, 251, 261, 301, 311, 342, and 372, which deepen knowledge in areas such as quantum mechanics, thermodynamics, and advanced laboratory work. In addition, students must complete three upper-level courses chosen from PHYS 300-level offerings, PHYS 401, 421, 432, or ASTR 300-level courses to develop specialized expertise. Supporting requirements include CHEM 104, CS 110, and either CS 115 or CS 261, along with a full mathematics sequence including MATH 110, 111, 122, 213, and 217. The program also includes Arts Core Requirements such as ENGL 100 and 110, as well as electives across Arts, Science, and other disciplines to provide academic breadth. Students must maintain a minimum major GPA of 65% and meet overall PGPA and UGPA requirements of 60% to graduate successfully.
