COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Geology at the University of Regina is a 120-credit-hour program designed to provide comprehensive training in Earth sciences, combining theoretical knowledge with field and laboratory experience. The major requires 84 credit hours of core courses, beginning with foundational subjects such as ESC 102, ESC 201, ESC 210, and ESC 211, which introduce geological principles, mineralogy, and Earth systems. Students then progress to intermediate and advanced topics including sedimentology, stratigraphy, geophysics, structural geology, and environmental geology through courses like ESC 240, ESC 241, ESC 307, ESC 313, ESC 314, ESC 315, ESC 340, and ESC 353. Advanced study is emphasized with multiple 400-level ESC courses, including ESC 453 and ESC 496, along with additional senior electives to deepen specialization. Supporting coursework in CHEM 104 and CHEM 105, PHYS 109 and 119 or PHYS 111 and 112, MATH 110, STAT 100 or 160, CS 110, and GES 323 ensures strong foundations in science, mathematics, and computational skills. Students also complete two APEGS-approved science electives to meet professional standards. Beyond the major, the program includes ENGL 100 and ENGL 110, 12 credit hours of Arts or related electives, one additional elective, and 15 credit hours of open electives. A minimum 65% major GPA is required. Overall, the program prepares graduates for careers in geoscience, environmental consulting, and resource industries, or for further professional and academic study.
