COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Geography and Environmental Studies at the University of Regina is a 120-credit-hour program designed to explore the relationships between people, places, and the environment through both scientific and social science approaches. The program begins with foundational courses such as GES 120, GES 121, and GES 200, which introduce key concepts in geography and environmental studies, including spatial analysis, environmental systems, and human–environment interactions. Students then complete three additional 200-level GES courses to build intermediate knowledge in the field. The core of the program includes six advanced 300- or 400-level GES courses, along with one additional 400-level course and three further GES electives, allowing students to specialize in areas such as physical geography, human geography, or environmental systems. Supporting cognate courses strengthen analytical and scientific skills and include biology (BIOL 100, 101, or 150), chemistry or physics (CHEM 104 or PHYS 109), computer science (CS 110), statistics (STAT 100 or 160), and mathematics (MATH 103 or 110). To broaden their academic experience, students also complete English communication courses, science electives, arts or media electives, and open electives. Overall, the program develops strong research, analytical, and field-based skills, preparing graduates for careers in environmental management, urban planning, climate research, and sustainability-focused roles, as well as further academic study.
