COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Environmental Geoscience at the University of Regina is a 120-credit-hour program that integrates geology, geography, and environmental science to understand Earth systems and human impacts on the environment. The major requires 87 credit hours, beginning with core courses such as ESC 102, ESC 201, ESC 210, and ESC 211, which introduce geological principles, followed by studies in sedimentology, geochemistry, and environmental processes through courses like ESC 240, ESC 241 or GES options, ESC 307, ESC 314, ESC 329 or GES 329, and ESC 353. Applied and field-based learning is emphasized through ESC 396 or GES 411 and advanced environmental topics such as ESC 460. Geography components, including GES 121, GES 203, GES 323, and GES 327 or ESC 476, strengthen spatial and environmental analysis skills. Students also complete upper-level electives, including one intermediate option and two senior 400-level courses, allowing specialization in environmental systems. Supporting coursework includes CHEM 104 and CHEM 105, PHYS 109 and 119 or PHYS 111 and 112, MATH 110, STAT 100 or 160, CS 110, and BIOL 100 or 101, along with an APEGS-approved science elective. An Indigenous-focused course is also required to incorporate diverse perspectives. Additional requirements include ENGL 100, ENGL 110, electives, and open credits. A minimum 65% major GPA is required, preparing graduates for environmental consulting, geoscience careers, and sustainability-focused roles.
