COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Education Elementary Teacher Education (Pre-K–8) program is a four-year degree that combines academic coursework with extensive classroom field experience to prepare students for Saskatchewan teacher certification. The curriculum begins with foundational courses such as ECS 102 (Education for Justice: Self and Other), INDG 100 (Introduction to Indigenous Studies), ENGL 100 (Critical Reading and Writing), and MATH 101 (Introductory Finite Mathematics), which build essential academic and social understanding. As students progress, they study pedagogy, curriculum development, and teaching methods through courses such as ECS 301 (Pedagogy: Theory and Practices), ECS 303 (Curriculum and Pedagogy), EMTH 310 (Teaching Mathematics in Elementary Schools), ERDG 310 (Teaching Literacy), EPE 310 (Physical Education), and EHE 310 (Health Education). The program also emphasizes Indigenous education through courses like Treaties in the Classroom and integrates social justice, equity, and anti-oppressive teaching practices across all subjects. Students develop skills in teaching multiple literacies, digital learning, classroom management, and inclusive education strategies. Field experience is central to the program, beginning in year one with school exposure, expanding into pre-internship practicum in year three, and culminating in a full internship where students take responsibility for classroom teaching under supervision. Overall, the curriculum integrates theory, practice, and reflection to prepare adaptable, reflective, and skilled elementary educators.
