COURSE CURRICULUM

The Four-Year Arts Education Secondary Program (120 credit hours) at the University of Regina is designed to prepare students for teaching at the secondary school level through a blend of arts specialization, academic study, and professional training. In the first year (Terms 1–2), students complete foundational education courses such as ECS 101 and ECS 102, English (ENGL 100), and Indigenous studies or language requirements, while beginning their major in Media, Art, and Performance along with minor subject courses. Terms 3 and 4 build on this foundation with advanced major electives at the 200–400 level, additional minor courses, and open electives, allowing students to deepen subject knowledge and broaden their academic scope. In Terms 5 and 6, the program focuses on pre-internship preparation, including curriculum-specific courses in both major and minor areas, educational psychology, inclusive education, and teaching methods, helping students develop classroom readiness and pedagogical skills. The final year (Terms 7 and 8) emphasizes practical experience and advanced coursework, including a full internship (EFLD 402), senior-level electives in the major, and remaining minor and open electives. Overall, the program integrates theory, creative practice, and real-world teaching experience to prepare graduates for careers in secondary arts education.
