COURSE CURRICULUM

The Four-Year Arts Education Elementary Program (120 credit hours) at the University of Regina is structured to provide a balanced foundation in education, arts, and interdisciplinary learning. In the first year (Terms 1–2), students complete core courses such as ECS 101 and 102, English (ENGL 100 and 110 or INDG 208), mathematics (MATH 101), a natural science elective, and Indigenous studies or language options, along with introductory media, art, and performance electives. In Terms 3 and 4, students deepen their knowledge through courses in arts education areas like drama, music, visual arts, and literature, combined with electives, modern language study, and additional education-focused coursework. Terms 5 and 6 focus on pre-internship preparation, including specialized subjects such as mathematics education (EMTH 310), language and literacy (ELNG 310, ERDG 310), science education (ESCI 310), curriculum studies, psychology, and inclusive education. These terms build the pedagogical skills required for classroom teaching. In the final year, Terms 7 and 8 emphasize practical experience and advanced learning. Students complete a major internship (EFLD 402), advanced arts electives, and non-education electives. Overall, the program integrates theory, creative practice, and hands-on teaching experience to prepare students for elementary-level arts education careers.
