COURSE CURRICULUM

The Arts Education After Degree (BEAD) Secondary Program (60 credit hours) at the University of Regina is a two-year intensive teacher education program designed for students who already hold a bachelor’s degree and want to become qualified secondary school teachers in arts education. In the first phase (Terms 1 and 2), students complete pre-internship coursework that builds foundational teaching knowledge and subject specialization. This includes major curriculum courses such as EAE 201, EAE 302, EAE 350, and EAE 400, along with a minor teaching subject, education studies like ECS 203, ECS 310, ECS 401, and ECCU 400, and an introductory arts education course (EDAN, EDRA, ELIT, EMUS, or EVIS 101). Students also begin field preparation through EFLD 360. In the second phase (Terms 3 and 4), students focus heavily on practical teaching experience through a full internship (EFLD 402), where they teach in real secondary school classrooms under supervision. Alongside this, they complete advanced education psychology (EPSY 400), Indigenous studies or language requirements, additional arts education coursework at the 100–200 level, and open electives. Overall, the program integrates theory, subject expertise, and extensive practicum experience to prepare graduates for professional secondary teaching careers in arts education.
