COURSE CURRICULUM

The Arts Education After Degree (BEAD) Elementary Program (60 credit hours) at the University of Regina is an intensive two-year teacher education pathway designed for students who already hold a bachelor’s degree and want to become elementary school teachers specializing in arts education. In the first phase (Terms 1 and 2), students complete pre-internship coursework focused on developing core teaching competencies, including curriculum studies (EAE 302, EAE 350), literacy and language education (ELNG 310, ERDG 310), mathematics education (EMTH 310), science and social studies methods (ESCI 310, ESST 310), Indigenous education components, and classroom-focused theory such as ECS 401 and ECCU 400. These courses are combined with introductory arts education study and field preparation (EFLD 360). In the second phase (Terms 3 and 4), students move into full practicum experience through a major internship (EFLD 402), where they apply their teaching skills in real classroom settings. Alongside this, they complete advanced education psychology (EPSY 400), additional Indigenous studies or language requirements, open electives, and further arts education coursework. Overall, the program is highly practice-oriented, combining pedagogy, subject knowledge, and extensive school-based experience to prepare graduates for teaching in elementary classrooms with a strong emphasis on arts integration.
