COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Sport and Recreation Studies Honours in Sport and Recreation Management at the University of Regina is an advanced version of the regular degree and is designed for students who want deeper academic training, research experience, and stronger preparation for leadership roles in the sport and recreation industry. The program typically includes the same core foundation courses in sport, recreation, and business as the standard degree, such as sport management principles, sport marketing, event and venue management, data analytics in sport, sport communication, and volunteer management. Along with these, Honours students take additional higher-level courses in sport and recreation management and complete specialized advanced study in research methods and independent academic work. A key component is the Honours research project or thesis, where students investigate a focused topic in sport or recreation under faculty supervision, developing strong analytical and research skills. Fieldwork or internship experience is also included, allowing students to apply classroom learning in real sport organizations, clubs, or agencies. Compared to the regular degree, the Honours pathway has more advanced coursework, fewer electives, and greater emphasis on critical thinking, academic writing, and research. This makes it especially suitable for students planning graduate studies or careers in sport policy, administration, research, or high-level management in sport organizations.
