COURSE CURRICULUM

The Four-Year Secondary Bachelor of Indigenous Education Program (BIEd) at the First Nations University of Canada prepares students to become qualified high school teachers while integrating Indigenous knowledge systems, perspectives, and pedagogical approaches. The program follows the overall structure of the University of Regina Secondary Education framework but is uniquely enriched with Indigenous content, ensuring that teacher candidates are trained to teach in culturally responsive and inclusive ways. It emphasizes Aboriginal worldviews, cultural processes, and community-based learning alongside standard academic subjects. Students may enter the program directly after completing high school or choose the two-year Bachelor of Education After Degree (BEAD) pathway if they already hold an undergraduate degree. Academic regulations are primarily based on University of Regina standards, with additional Indigenous Education guidelines that reflect the program’s cultural and educational priorities.
