COURSE CURRICULUM

The Four-Year Elementary Bachelor of Indigenous Education Program at the University of Regina is a 120-credit-hour degree designed to prepare future teachers to work in elementary and Indigenous education settings. The program integrates academic coursework with Indigenous perspectives, languages, and extensive practical experience in schools. In the first year, students take foundational courses such as ENGL 100, INDG 100, MATH 101, an Indigenous language course, and introductory education courses like EIND 116. The second year builds pedagogical understanding through courses in educational psychology, language learning, Indigenous education options, and curriculum foundations. In the third year, students take more specialized education courses including EPE 215, EMTH 215, ERDG 215, EPSY 225, ESCI 215, and ELNG 325, along with field-related components. The fourth year focuses on advanced teaching practice, Indigenous education leadership, and curriculum development, including courses like EIEA 355, EIND 305, and JS 351, along with electives. Students also complete non-education electives and subject-area courses in science, arts, or Indigenous knowledge. A key feature of the program is the extensive practicum experience, including a major 15-credit internship (EFLD 405) in the final term, where students apply theory in real classroom settings. Overall, the program prepares graduates for certification and careers as elementary teachers in diverse and Indigenous learning environments.
