COURSE CURRICULUM

The Criminology program at the University of Regina offers a wide range of courses that help students understand crime, justice systems, and social responses to harm in both Canadian and global contexts. Introductory courses such as CRIM 100 provide a foundation in key concepts including crime, law, deviance, victimology, and theories of criminal behaviour, along with basic crime statistics and classifications. CRIM 230 introduces students to the structure of Canadian law, covering both criminal and civil law and exploring important legal cases and debates. As students progress, they study specialized topics like CRIM 318, which focuses on restorative and community justice approaches that emphasize rehabilitation and victim support rather than punishment. CRIM 350 examines justice issues affecting Indigenous peoples, including colonial history, rights, land claims, and self-government. Youth-focused issues are covered in CRIM 370, which looks at young offenders and youth justice legislation. Environmental concerns are explored in CRIM 412, which addresses environmental justice, ethics, and global sustainability. Finally, CRIM 460 examines discrimination and justice, focusing on inequality related to race, gender, age, sexuality, and other social identities. Overall, these courses develop critical thinking, analytical skills, and a deep understanding of justice-related issues, preparing students for careers in law, social services, community work, and policy development.
