COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Applied Science (BASc) in Energy Systems Engineering – Petroleum Engineering Option at the University of Regina is a 136-credit-hour professional engineering program designed to prepare students for careers in the exploration, extraction, and responsible management of oil and gas resources. The program is structured over nine academic terms, beginning with foundational science and engineering courses such as CHEM 104, PHYS 109, MATH 110, 111, and 122, along with ENGG 100, ENGG 123, ENGG 140, CS 110, and ENGL 100. In the second and third years, students build core engineering knowledge through courses including ENEL 280, ENER 201, 203, ENEV 223, ENEV 261, ENIN 233, ENIN 253, ENGG 303, and ENGG 330, supported by advanced mathematics and statistics such as MATH 217, 213, and STAT 289. The petroleum specialization becomes more focused in later terms with courses like ENER 301, 305, 331, 333, 431, 433, 435, and 437, which cover drilling, reservoir engineering, production systems, and energy resource management. Professional development is strengthened through ENGG 401 and ENER 409, along with interdisciplinary studies in business (BUS 260), economics (ECON 201), humanities, and approved electives. Overall, the program prepares graduates to work in the oil and gas industry with strong technical, analytical, and environmental responsibility skills.
