COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts Honours in Women’s and Gender Studies at the University of Regina is a 120-credit-hour advanced undergraduate program designed for students who want to deepen their understanding of gender, feminism, and social justice through rigorous academic study and research. The honours major requires 51 credit hours and begins with foundational courses such as WGST 100, WGST 200, and WGST 305, which introduce key feminist theories, methodologies, and critical perspectives. Students also complete a media, art, and performance-related WGST or approved MAP course, along with five additional WGST or approved elective courses to build breadth in the discipline. The program further requires three additional WGST courses, including one 300-level course and two 400-level courses, ensuring advanced academic engagement with complex gender-related issues. Students complete WGST 498 and WGST 499, which typically involve independent research or an honours thesis, allowing them to conduct in-depth scholarly work under faculty supervision. Alongside the major, students complete 27 credit hours of Arts core requirements covering writing, Indigenous studies, humanities, sciences, and languages. The remaining 42 credit hours are open electives, providing flexibility for interdisciplinary learning. This honours program prepares students for graduate studies and careers in research, policy, advocacy, education, and social justice work.
