COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts Honours in Visual Arts at the University of Regina is an intensive 120-credit-hour program designed for students seeking advanced artistic development, research experience, and professional-level practice. The program includes 24 credit hours of critical competencies in writing, natural or social sciences, culture and society, and research methodologies, ensuring a strong academic foundation. Students also complete 12 credit hours in media, art, and performance courses outside the major to broaden creative perspectives. The core of the honours program is the 72 credit hours in art, beginning with foundational courses such as ART 100, ART 220, and ART 221, followed by intermediate options and advanced studio courses at the 300- and 400-level. A significant component is the Visual Arts Studio requirement, where students complete 18 credit hours of approved studio work, with most at the 400 level and high academic performance standards. The program culminates in a graduate exhibition, where students present a professionally curated body of work. In addition, Visual Arts Studies courses include art history and theory through ARTH and INAH classes, along with seminar and honours research paper options. With fewer open electives, the honours degree emphasizes specialization, critical thinking, and preparation for graduate studies or professional artistic careers.
