COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts Honours in Sociology at the University of Regina is an advanced undergraduate program that provides a deeper and more research-focused study of society, social behaviour, and social institutions. The program includes core sociology courses such as SOC 100, SOST 201, SOST 203, SOST 306, SOST 307, SOC 285, and SOC 208, along with two courses from SOC 308, 314, or 330 to strengthen specialized knowledge in key sociological areas. Students also complete SOC 485 and four additional 200-level SOC or SOST courses, building a strong foundation in sociological theory and research methods. The Honours component includes higher-level academic work such as SOC 400, SOC 401, SOC 404, and SOC 499, which often involves independent research, advanced seminars, and an honours thesis or capstone project. One additional 400-level SOC or SOST course is also required to develop advanced analytical and critical thinking skills. The program is supported by Arts Core Requirements similar to the BA in Sociology, including writing, Indigenous studies, humanities, social sciences, and interdisciplinary electives. Students also complete 45 credit hours of open electives, allowing academic flexibility. Overall, this honours degree is designed for students who want strong preparation for graduate studies or research careers in sociology, social policy, or related fields, with a focus on critical analysis of social issues, inequality, and social change.
