COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts Honours in International Studies at the University of Regina is a 120-credit-hour program that provides advanced training in global political, economic, and social systems. In addition to completing the Arts Core Requirements, students must fulfill foundational coursework such as ENGL 100 for critical reading and writing and INDG 100 for Indigenous perspectives. Additional core areas include logical and numerical reasoning, humanities, social sciences, Indigenous knowledge, media and arts, science, and language courses, ensuring a broad interdisciplinary foundation. The program’s International Studies core includes IS 100, IS 220, IS 240, PSCI 240, HIST 116 or HIST 150, and SOST 203, along with at least three 300-level IS courses and one 400-level IS course, which develop advanced analytical and research skills. A key component of the Honours degree is the concentration requirement, where students choose either International Affairs Honours or International Development Honours, focusing respectively on global political relations or issues such as poverty, inequality, and development policy. The remaining 30 credit hours are completed through open electives, allowing flexibility to explore related disciplines and meet course prerequisites. Students must maintain a strong academic standing, including a 75% major GPA requirement. Overall, the program prepares students for graduate study and careers in diplomacy, policy, and international development.
