COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts Honours in Indigenous Studies at the University of Regina is a 120-credit-hour degree designed for students who want advanced and in-depth study of Indigenous histories, cultures, knowledge systems, and contemporary issues. Students are strongly encouraged to consult the program coordinator by the end of their second year to plan their academic pathway. The major requires foundational courses such as INDG 100 Introductory to Indigenous Studies and INDG 201, followed by core courses including INDG 228, 229, 234, 380, 490, and 491, which provide progressively advanced learning and research experience. Students also choose from a range of intermediate courses such as INDG 208, 210, 215, 216, 218, 219, 221, and 222, along with INDG 224 or 225, and INDG 280, 281, or 282. The program requires four additional Indigenous Studies courses at or above the 200 level, three at the 300 level, and two at the 400 level, ensuring strong specialization and academic depth. Alongside the major, students complete Arts core requirements covering writing, humanities, social sciences, science, Indigenous knowledge, language, and quantitative reasoning. The program also includes open electives for broader learning. Overall, it emphasizes research, critical analysis, and academic writing, preparing students for graduate studies and careers in education, policy, and Indigenous community leadership.
