COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts Honours in History (Thesis/Project Option) at the University of Regina is a 120-credit-hour program designed for students seeking advanced historical knowledge, research expertise, and preparation for graduate studies. The honours major requires 57 credit hours, beginning with foundational courses including one 100-level HIST course and an additional 100- or 200-level course, followed by six 200-level HIST courses that build strong knowledge of historical themes and methods. Students then complete seven 300- or 400-level HIST courses, allowing for deeper specialization, along with at least one 400-level HIST course and an additional senior seminar such as HIST 400 or HIST 415. A key component of this program is the research-focused thesis/project sequence, including HIST 498 and HIST 499, where students must achieve a minimum grade of 75% and produce an original research project under faculty supervision. The program requires a minimum 75% major GPA, reflecting its academic rigor. In addition, students complete 27 credit hours of Arts Core Requirements, including courses in writing, Indigenous studies, humanities, social sciences, and sciences, ensuring a well-rounded education. The remaining 36 credit hours are open electives, allowing flexibility to explore complementary disciplines.
