COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts Honours in Film Studies at the University of Regina is a 120-credit-hour advanced undergraduate program designed for students seeking in-depth academic and research training in film and screen-based media. The program begins with 33 credit hours in Critical Competencies, including Communication in Writing (6 credit hours through ACAD 100, ENGL 100, or ENGL 110), Natural and Social Sciences (6 credit hours from disciplines such as economics, psychology, sociology, geography, political science, or science), Culture and Society courses including MAP 202 or MAP 209 plus additional humanities or social science subjects (6 credit hours), and Research Skills and Methodologies (3 credit hours from research, statistics, logic, or computer science-related courses). Students also complete 9 credit hours of Critical Competency electives from approved subject areas. Within the major, students complete 36 credit hours in Film Studies, starting with FILM 100 and core courses such as FILM 253, FILM 254, FILM 256, FILM 345, and FILM 348, along with production or studio courses and upper-level electives, including 400-level study. The Honours component includes 15 credit hours, consisting of three advanced Film courses, a major Honours research paper or project, and a senior seminar such as MAP 400 or an approved equivalent. Students also complete 12 credit hours outside the major and 24 open electives.
