COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in Visual Arts at the University of Regina is a 120-credit-hour program that combines studio-based artistic practice with academic study and interdisciplinary learning. The program begins with critical competency requirements totaling 24 credit hours, including courses in writing, natural or social sciences, culture and society, and research methodologies, ensuring students develop strong communication, analytical, and research skills. Students also complete 12 credit hours in media, art, and performance courses outside their major to broaden their creative exposure. The core of the program is the 54 credit hours in art, where students build foundational and advanced skills through courses such as ART 100, ART 220, and ART 221, followed by intermediate and advanced studio courses at the 200-, 300-, and 400-level. Art history is an essential component, with courses like ARTH 100, ARTH 301, INAH 100, and additional electives that provide historical, theoretical, and cultural perspectives on art. Students are required to take upper-level courses, including at least 6 credit hours at the 400 level, to deepen their specialization. The program also includes 30 credit hours of open electives, allowing flexibility to explore other interests or pursue a minor, preparing graduates for diverse creative and professional paths.
