COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in Sociology at the University of Regina is a 120-credit-hour program designed to provide students with a strong foundation in understanding society, social behaviour, and social institutions. The major requirements include core courses such as SOC 100, SOST 201, SOST 203, SOST 306, SOST 307, SOC 285, and SOC 485, along with additional coursework including three 200-level SOC or SOST courses and two upper-level 300- or 400-level SOC courses. These courses help students build knowledge in sociological theory, research methods, and applied social analysis. The Arts Core Requirements complement the major and include ENGL 100 for writing skills, Indigenous Studies (INDG 100), logical and numerical reasoning through courses like PHIL, ECON, MATH, or STAT, as well as introductory-level courses in humanities, social sciences, Indigenous knowledge, media and arts, and science disciplines. Students are also required to complete courses in an additional language, promoting cultural and communication skills. The program includes 60 credit hours of open electives, allowing students flexibility to explore other academic interests or develop a minor. Overall, the curriculum emphasizes critical thinking, research skills, and an understanding of issues such as inequality, culture, power, and social change, preparing graduates for careers in social services, policy, research, education, and community development.
