COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in Resource and Environmental Studies is a 120-credit-hour program designed to combine environmental science, resource management, Indigenous knowledge, and community-focused learning. A major feature of the program is 60 credit hours of block transfer credit awarded to students who complete a Saskatchewan Polytechnic diploma in Resource and Environmental Law or Integrated Resource Management before admission. The remaining 60 credit hours are completed at the University of Regina and include both environmental and human justice-focused coursework. The Environmental Core includes foundational science and environmental studies courses such as BIOL 100, BIOL 101, GES 100, GES 200, and additional courses chosen from areas like biology, economics, geography, Indigenous studies, sociology, philosophy, and environmental science, with at least some upper-level (300- or 400-level) study required. The Human Justice Core emphasizes Indigenous governance, law, and community systems, including JS 100, JS 412 or ENVS 200, INDG 100, INDG 225, INDG 236, and Indigenous language courses. Additional Arts Core Requirements include ENGL 100, logical and numerical reasoning, humanities, social sciences, Indigenous knowledge, media and arts, science, and language requirements, many of which may overlap with major requirements. The program develops skills in environmental policy, sustainability, Indigenous perspectives, and resource governance, preparing graduates for careers in environmental management, policy, and community development.
