COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in Music is a four-year degree that follows the general BA structure while focusing on developing strong academic and practical knowledge in music. Students begin with foundational “Critical Competencies” requirements, including at least 6 credit hours in Communication in Writing through courses such as ACAD 100, ENGL 100, or ENGL 110. They also complete at least 6 credit hours in Natural and Social Sciences, choosing from areas like economics, psychology, sociology, political science, geography, or science and mathematics courses. Another 6 credit hours are required in Culture and Society, including MAP 202 or MAP 209 and one additional humanities-based course from disciplines such as history, anthropology, literature, languages, philosophy, or related fields. Research skills are developed through at least 3 credit hours in areas like research methods, statistics, computer science, or logic. Students also complete 9 credit hours of Critical Competency electives across these categories. In the Music major, students complete 36 credit hours, beginning with foundational theory or music courses such as MU 100, MU 101, or MUTH 211/221, followed by ensemble participation through six MUEN courses. Additional requirements include four advanced courses in music theory, history, performance, or composition, with at least two at the senior level, plus five elective courses within the major, allowing students to specialize in their areas of interest.
