COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in International Studies at the University of Regina is a 120-credit-hour program designed to provide students with a strong foundation in global systems, international relations, and cross-cultural understanding. The program begins with Arts Core Requirements, including ENGL 100 for critical reading and writing, INDG 100 for Indigenous perspectives, and courses in logical reasoning, humanities, social sciences, Indigenous knowledge, media and arts, science, and languages. These foundational courses ensure students develop broad analytical, communication, and interdisciplinary skills. The core International Studies requirements include IS 100, IS 220, IS 240, PSCI 240, and HIST 116 or HIST 150, which introduce key global political and historical frameworks. Students then complete at least three 300-level IS courses and one 400-level IS course, along with SOST 203, to build advanced understanding of international systems and issues. A major component of the program is the choice between two concentrations: International Development or International Affairs, allowing students to focus on global inequality, development policy, or international political and economic relations. The program also includes open electives that allow flexibility for additional interests. Overall, it prepares students for careers in diplomacy, international organizations, policy analysis, and global development work through a balance of theory, specialization, and interdisciplinary study.
